9th Korean Astrophysics Workshop (KAW9):
Proton Acceleration at
Collisionless Shocks and
Gamma-ray Emission
from Galaxy Clusters
July 10 - 12, 2017
CHEA, UNIST, Ulsan,
Korea

Scientific Rationale
Cosmic-ray protons are expected to be accelerated at structure
formation shocks. Inelastic collisions of shock-accelerated protons with
ICM should produce pion0-decay gamma-ray, which could be detected by
current gamma-ray telescopes. Then why do we not detect gamma-ray emission
from galaxy clusters? This workshop aims to find answers to this important
yet outstanding question.
